I Snore. That’s How I Ended Up Here.
I sleep open mouth more so than anything else, especially as I’ve gained a little bit of weight. And I snore a lot. So I’ve really been looking for something other than my normal mouthwash, and Biotene Oral Rinse Mouthwash really goes directly with that.
Oral rinse is a fancy way of saying mouthwash, by the way. The bottle says soothing and moisturizing, and this is the fresh mint version.
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now. The routine is simple: brush and rinse at night, nothing else. By morning my mouth is noticeably less sticky, no more reaching for water before I’ve even sat up. That’s a meaningful change from every standard mouthwash I tried before this one.
What a 16 Ounce Bottle Buys You
Four hours of relief per rinse, per the label, against a standard mouthwash that does nothing for dryness at all. That’s the actual trade. My old rinse was a breath product. This one is a moisture product that happens to taste minty.
One thing worth knowing before you click buy: the price on this one moves around a lot. It’s sitting at about its usual level right now, but it has dropped well under that before, so check the live price rather than assuming. It’s ranked around #918 in Health & Household with more than 9,000 bought in the past month, which tells you this isn’t a niche experiment. A lot of people are dealing with the same dry mouth problem.
One Bottle, Three Rinses a Day
Here’s the friction. I rinse at least twice a day, and if I’m eating something a little bit more than midday after lunch, I’ll do the same routine again. That’s a third pour. A 16 fl oz bottle does not stretch far at that pace, and I burn through it faster than I did my normal mouthwash.
The other thing is that it’s mild. No sting. If you’re used to that eye-watering alcohol burn and you read the burn as proof it’s working, this is going to feel like you did nothing. You didn’t do nothing. It just doesn’t announce itself.
Pouring the First Cup
Setup is a cap and a pour. I kind of wanted you guys to see it in the video, so I poured a little bit into a container, and the thing you notice right away is that it’s clear.
Sometimes you get a mouthwash that’s blue, red, or green. A lot of times they have a lot of dyes and a lot of colors in that mouthwash. This does not have that. No dyes, no additives, no colors, no fillers or anything. I really appreciate that.
When I sniffed it, it’s just a fresh minty smell to it, but also a minty taste as well too. Nothing medicinal about it. Current pricing and availability are on the product page.
Where This Oral Rinse Runs Out of Road
It treats the symptom, not the cause. My snoring is still my snoring, and the weight I gained is still the weight I gained. This is a four hour moisture window, so if you’re asleep for eight, the back half of the night is on its own. Mine still came out ahead in the morning, but I’m not going to pretend it covers a full night.
It’s Not Replacing Your Toothpaste
The misconception I’d flag is treating this as a brushing substitute. It isn’t. My routine is brush, then rinse, twice a day minimum. The rinse is the step that handles the dryness after the toothbrush has done the cleaning.
The second misconception is expecting a dramatic sensation. There’s no sting, no burn, nothing happening during the thirty seconds you’re swishing. The payoff is at 6am when your mouth doesn’t feel like sandpaper. Most people quit before they ever get there.
Who Should Grab It
Snorers, open-mouth sleepers, and anyone on a GLP-1 medication like Ozempic or Wegovy dealing with the dry mouth side effect. Also anyone who reads labels and doesn’t want dyes sitting in their mouth twice a day.

If your mouth is fine and you just want fresher breath, your regular mouthwash is cheaper and you don’t need this. But if you snore, sleep open-mouthed, or take a medication that dries you out, this is the specific tool for that specific problem. Buy it.
Pros
- Clear liquid, no dyes, no colors, no additives or fillers
- Noticeable morning difference after a night rinse
- Fresh mint smell and taste, not medicinal
- Slots straight into a normal brush-and-rinse routine, no learning curve
- Rated for up to four hours of relief per use
Cons
- A 16 fl oz bottle goes fast at two or three rinses a day
- No burn or sting, which reads as “doing nothing” if that’s what you’re used to
- Four hour window doesn’t cover a full night’s sleep
- Price swings a lot, so timing matters
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there alcohol in this oral rinse?
The Biotene dry mouth formula is built around moisturizing rather than stripping, and there’s no burn when I use it. That matters because alcohol is drying, which defeats the point of a dry mouth rinse. Check the bottle label for the current ingredient list before you buy.
Can kids use it?
I’d ask a dentist first. This is a product made for a specific adult problem, usually medication-related or age-related dry mouth, and kids rarely have that issue. It’s also a swish-and-spit product, so the usual age rules about not swallowing mouthwash apply.
Should I rinse with water afterward?
No. Rinsing with water right after washes the moisturizing layer off, which is the whole reason you used it. I spit and leave it, then go to bed. Same logic as not rinsing after a fluoride toothpaste.
Does it come in other sizes or flavors?
The one I’m using is the 16 fl oz Fresh Mint bottle. Biotene makes other dry mouth formats too, so if mint isn’t your thing it’s worth looking at what else is listed on the product page. For a twice-daily routine the 16 ounce is the size I’d start with.
