The Glocusent 13 LED Book Lights are worth buying if you read in bed and want more light without waking anyone up. Three color temperatures, five brightness levels, 2.5 ounces, and a 120-hour rating that means I charge it about once a week. Buy.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.

Quick Verdict

I read two or three hours at a stretch and I charge this thing maybe once a week. That’s the whole pitch. Rechargeable, 2.5 ounces, clips right onto the book, and I’d call it one of my favorite purchases in a long time.

I Clipped It to a Bible to Show You

I grabbed a Bible off the shelf because it’s thick and it’s the kind of book people read at night. Clipped it right on the cover, bent the gooseneck over, and the light landed on the page where I wanted it. That’s the test. These LED book lights are on Amazon here if you want to see the current price.

I also flipped it upside down on camera so you could see exactly where the light comes from and exactly where the USB-C plug sits, it’s on the body, not the neck, so the cable runs off to the side and doesn’t block the page.

Where These LED Book Lights Sit Against the Cheap Ones

Rechargeable USB-C charging separates this from the two-dollar clip lights you’d replace weekly. I love everything that comes in a rechargeable now. We all carry little power banks with us at all times anyway, so a USB-C book light slots right into the stuff you already have in your bag.

The other thing is the light itself. Three color temperatures, amber, natural, and cool white, and five brightness levels. Amber at 1800K is the one for bedtime. Cool white at 6000K is more of a studying light. Most of the generic book lights reading crowd buys give you one harsh white and that’s it.

It’s clearly moving, too. Amazon has it sitting around #781 in Tools & Home Improvement against a 90 day average closer to #1,050, with more than 4,000 bought in the past month. It’s also running a little above its usual price for the past three months, so if you’re not in a hurry, it’s worth a look at the live number.

The 120 Hours I Didn’t Test

The 120-hour rating is at low brightness only, I read two or three hours at a time, not 120, so I charge it about once a week. I haven’t run this for 120 hours and I’m not going to pretend I did. I read maybe two or three hours at a time, not 120. What the rating does for me practically is simple: I’m not plugging this in every single night. I probably charge it at most once a week, and that’s with regular use.

Keep in mind the 120-hour figure is at low brightness. Crank it to the top of the five levels and that number is going to drop. The four LED battery indicators help here. Glance before you start a chapter and you know where you stand.

2.5 Ounces and a Clip That Doesn’t Scratch

At 2.5 ounces, this doesn’t pull a paperback sideways in your hand the way heavier clip lights do, you forget it’s there until you need to turn a page.

The clip opens to 1.6 inches with soft anti-skid pads, so it grips a Kindle, an e-reader, or a desk edge without chewing up the surface. The gooseneck holds where I bend it. 360 degrees, aim it anywhere you need it. I love the flexible light source more than almost anything else about it.

Charging and Keeping It Simple

USB-C, and you can plug it straight into a wall outlet or a power bank. There’s no app, no account, no pairing. Three buttons on the side handle color, brightness, and power, and they remember your last setting, so you’re not clicking through the whole menu every night.

Which Color to Get and Who to Give It To

Six colors: black, white, purple, pink, blue, and green. If you’ve got white decor on the nightstand, the white one blends. Black disappears against a dark cover. That’s the only real decision to make since every version is the same light inside.

It ships with a bookmark included and Glocusent backs it with a 60-day return promise, longer than Amazon’s standard window, which matters if you’re buying in November for December. Check today’s price on Amazon before you pick a color, since availability shifts between them.

Pros

  • Rechargeable over USB-C, and I charge it at most once a week
  • Clips directly onto a book cover and stays put
  • 360Β° flexible gooseneck aims the light exactly where you need it
  • Three color temperatures plus five brightness levels
  • 2.5 ounces, so it doesn’t unbalance the book

Cons

  • I can’t confirm the 120-hour claim. I read two or three hours at a stretch, not 120
  • That runtime is rated at low brightness, so higher levels will cut it down
  • Clip tops out at 1.6 inches, which rules out very thick covers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use it while it’s charging?

Yes, you can run it plugged into a wall outlet. The USB-C port is on the body of the light, so the cable just runs off to the side while you read.

Does it need an app or a subscription?

No. Three physical buttons do everything, and they remember your last setting. No account, no firmware, nothing to update.

Will it work for camping or travel?

It’s 2.5 ounces and clips to a desk edge or a tent pocket flap as easily as a book, so it packs fine. Just know it’s a focused reading beam, not an area light for a campsite.

What’s the return window if it’s a gift?

Glocusent backs it with a 60-day happiness promise, which is longer than a standard Amazon return window. That’s useful if you’re buying in November for December.

The once-a-week charging is what moved this from a gadget to something I keep on the nightstand. If you want a light that fills the room, this isn’t it, the beam stays on the page by design. Prove the 120 hours at a mid brightness level and it’s a five.
