Organic Lion’s Mane Mushroom: Double Wood Gives You Double
I ran two lion mane mushroom brands side by side for three to four months. Capsule count and dose decided it.
The Organic Lion’s Mane Mushroom from Double Wood is worth buying if you want the most capsules per bottle. You get roughly 120 capsules at 500 mg versus 60 in the NOW Foods bottle, plus more Lion’s Mane per dose. Costs a few dollars more. Buy the Double Wood.

Quick Verdict
Three to four months on Lion’s Mane, two brands running, and the deciding number was 120 capsules against 60. Double Wood costs a few dollars more and gives you more Lion’s Mane per dose. Both are phenomenal, but I’d take the bigger bottle.
Buy if you:
- Take Lion’s Mane daily and keep running out mid-month
- Already stack ashwagandha and a multivitamin
- Started on Lion’s Mane for anxiety, stress, or mood
- Want the most capsules per bottle, not the lowest sticker
Skip if you:
- Want a quick, obvious effect. I can’t point to a single day where it switched on, just better sleep over months
- Need the Non-GMO Project Verified seal on the bottle, because that’s the NOW Foods one
- Won’t pay a few dollars more up front even for double the count
| Dose per capsule | 500 mg (both brands) |

| Sourcing | Double Wood: manufactured and tested in the USA |
| Certification | NOW Foods: organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, vegetarian capsules |

I Started This for Anxiety, Not Focus
When anxiety and stress landed hard enough to reach for a supplement, lion’s mane capsules were my move, not the brain-fog-superhuman angle you see all over TikTok. I wanted something for the baseline, not a nootropic flex.
Three to four months in, the one thing I’d point to is sleep. Not falling asleep faster, waking up feeling like I’d actually used the hours. I can’t isolate the variable, so I’m not going to pretend I can. What I can tell you is both bottles stayed on my counter long enough to run out, which is more than I can say for a lot of supplements I try. You can see the Double Wood bottle on Amazon if you want to check the current count and price.
Two Bottles, Same 500 mg, Very Different Count
Both of these are 500 mg of lion mane mushroom per capsule. Identical on that line. Where they split is everything after it.
The Double Wood bottle runs about 120 capsules. The NOW Foods bottle is 60 vegetarian capsules. Same dose, half the bottle. And you get more Lion’s Mane in the Double Wood as well too, so you got to take that in consideration when you’re comparing the two side by side on a product page.
NOW Foods isn’t a throwaway, though. Theirs is made with organic mushrooms and carries the Non-GMO Project Verified designation right on the front, and the capsules are vegetarian. If those three things are your buying criteria, that’s your bottle and I won’t argue. Double Wood’s pitch is different: manufactured and tested in the USA, vegetarian safe, non-GMO, gluten free, third-party tested. Both are straightforward single-ingredient supplements. Neither is doing anything cute with a proprietary blend.
Double Wood also sells a bigger version of the same thing, an Organic Lion’s Mane Mushroom, 1,000mg, Grown in USA, 300 Capsules bottle. That’s the one to look at if you’ve already decided this is a mainstay rather than a trial.
A Few Dollars More, Twice the Bottle
Double Wood does cost a few dollars more. You get roughly double the product for it, so the per-capsule math isn’t close.
That’s really the whole value argument. If you’re taking a capsule a day, the 60-count bottle is a two-month reorder cycle and the 120 is four. I hate reordering supplements. One of the quiet reasons things fall out of my stack is that I run out on a Tuesday and don’t get around to it for a week. Bigger bottle, fewer gaps.
Worth knowing on pricing: the Double Wood listing has been sitting at roughly its normal price for the past three months, so there’s no reason to sit around waiting for a drop. Check today’s price on Amazon and you’ll see where it lands.
Where It Sits Against the Rest of the Shelf
It’s a popular bottle but not a runaway one. Amazon has it around #2,730 in Health & Household, against a 90-day average closer to #2,204, so it’s selling a bit slower now than it was earlier in the quarter. More than 1,000 bought in the past month, which tells me there’s a real repeat base rather than one viral spike.
The lion mane supplement shelf is crowded with powders, coffee blends, and gummies. I’d rather have a plain capsule with one ingredient and a number on it. Easier to know what you’re taking, easier to stack.
Before You Pick a Bottle
Pick the Double Wood unless the organic and Non-GMO Project seals matter more to you than count. That’s the decision in one sentence.
I’ve had no negative impacts as far as gastrointestinal problems with either brand, and it works well with the other supplements I take on a daily basis, ashwagandha and my multivitamins. No conflicts I’ve noticed. I’d still run it past your doctor at your annual physical if you’re on anything prescribed, because I’m telling you what happened to me, not what will happen to you.

The ingredient is identical. The split is 120 capsules versus 60 and a Non-GMO Project seal versus USA manufacturing and third-party testing. Know which of those you’re paying for and the choice is already made.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long before I’d expect to notice anything?
Think in months, not days. I’d been on it three to four months before I had anything worth saying on camera, and even then what I noticed was sleep quality rather than a sharp before-and-after. If you’re hoping for a next-morning difference, this isn’t that kind of supplement.
Can I take it at night or does it need to be morning?
There’s no stimulant in it, so timing is mostly about remembering to take it. I fold mine in with the rest of my daily stack rather than treating it as a separate ritual. Consistency has mattered more for me than the hour.
Is the capsule itself vegetarian?
Yes on both. NOW Foods uses vegetarian capsules and Double Wood lists theirs as vegetarian safe, non-GMO and gluten free. Worth confirming on the live listing since formulations get revised.
How should I store the bottle once it’s open?
Cool, dry, out of direct sun, cap tight. Mushroom capsules don’t love a steamy bathroom cabinet. Mine lives in a kitchen cupboard with the rest of the stack, which also means I see it every morning.
