5-in-1 Stainless Steel Cooking Spoon Review: Does Everything
I used the 5-in-1 Stainless Steel Cooking Spoon to separate egg whites, drain pasta and grind garlic. Here's what it does and where it slips.
The 5-in-1 Stainless Steel Cooking Spoon is worth buying if you cook small portions and hate digging through a drawer of single-job utensils. Grinding teeth, slotted bowl, strainer, and a bottle opener in the handle, all in thick stainless steel. The egg separating alone sold me. Buy.

Quick Verdict
I cracked an egg over this thing, let the white run straight through the slots, and kept the yolk whole. Didn’t know I needed it until I got it, and now I can’t do without it. Thick stainless, good ergonomic feel, and it opened a few beers along the way.
Buy if you:
- make egg white omelets and keep breaking the yolk
- cook one bowl of pasta and don’t want to dirty a big strainer
- grind garlic or shave a small block of cheese regularly
- cook in a dorm, RV, or camp kit where drawer space is tight
Skip if you:
- want a grippy handle, the stainless gets slippery and the yolk nearly got away from me
- drain full family-size pots of pasta, this is a scoop-and-drain, not a colander
- already own a dedicated grinder, separator and strainer you like

The Egg Yolk Nearly Got Away From Me
Every morning my wife orders an egg white omelet, and I crack the yolks half the time I try to separate them. This steel cooking spoon fixed that: crack the egg directly into the bowl of the spoon and the white drains straight through the slots while the yolk sits there intact, no cupped hands, no separate tool.
I think the spoon does a phenomenal job here. But you gotta be careful, because it’s kind of slippery. The yolk slid off to the side on me and I had to scoop it right back up. No break, so no harm. That’s the one thing I’d flag: polished stainless plus a wet yolk means slow hands win.
Slippery Is the Real Trade-Off
Smooth steel is easy to clean and bad at holding onto wet food. That’s the whole deal here. The same polished surface that rinses clean under plain water is the surface a yolk will skate across if you tilt too fast.
The handle itself is fine, it’s curved and it feels sturdy in my hand, good ergonomic feel. It’s the bowl that’s slick, not the grip. Worth knowing before your first egg.
What Five Tools in One Drawer Slot Is Worth
Five jobs, one utensil, and it hangs on a hook. That’s the math. The little serrated edge grinds garlic, and I’ve used it on a small block of cheese too. The hanging hole on the back end is a bottle opener, and I’ve used that quite a few times to open a bottle of beer as well too.
Pasta is where it replaces my colander. I do a lot of pasta. Sometimes I just need a bowl for myself, so I don’t need a big strainer. A couple of scoop fills with this and that’s all I need. No big pot of water poured into the sink, no colander to wash.
Pricing has been flat for about three months and it’s sitting near the cheapest it’s been tracked at, so there’s no obvious reason to sit on it waiting for a dip. Sales have picked up too, it’s moved to #10,061 in Kitchen & Dining against a 90 day average around #35,673, with 400+ bought in the last month. You can check the current price here.
Where It Runs Out of Room
It’s a single-serving tool, not a batch tool. Scooping a one-pound box of pasta out of a pot a few spoonfuls at a time isn’t the move. Grab the colander for that.
Same with grinding. The teeth handle garlic, ginger, a small block of cheese. You’re making seasoning quantities, not a cup of garlic paste for a party. And because it’s thick stainless all the way through, I wouldn’t be dragging it across a nonstick pan either.
Why This Steel Cooking Spoon Stays on the Hook
What keeps it on the hook: I genuinely use all four functions in a single weeknight meal, grind the garlic, separate the egg, drain a single-serve portion of pasta, crack a beer while it plates. One rinse between steps and it’s ready again. No other utensil I own pulls that off.

Solo cooks and RV packers, this is a straightforward buy. Five tools, one hook, one rinse. Everyone else should read the Skip list first, if nothing on it sounds like you, grab it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes, it’s dishwasher safe, and the smooth surface also rinses clean under plain water. Because it’s one-piece stainless there’s no joint or seam for food to pack into. I mostly just rinse it mid-cook and keep going.
Will it scratch my nonstick pans?
Treat it as a stainless utensil, which means keep it off nonstick coating. It’s thick steel with grinding teeth on the head, so it’s not gentle on a coated surface. Stainless, cast iron and stockpots are fine.
Does it work for camping or an RV kitchen?
That’s one of the better uses for it. One lightweight utensil replaces a slotted spoon, a small strainer, a grinder and a bottle opener, which is a real win in a camp box or RV drawer. The hanging hole lets you clip or hang it instead of taking up a slot.
Can it mash potatoes?
It’s built to hold its shape for mashing and grinding tasks like potatoes, garlic paste and ginger. For a small side portion it’ll do. For a big holiday batch you still want a real masher, because the spoon head is sized for one bowl at a time.
