After years of baking soda burning my underarms raw, I was one failed stick away from giving up on natural deodorant entirely. That’s when I picked up this Aluminum Free Deodorant, magnesium and zinc instead of baking soda, no synthetic fragrance, no aluminum. It’s been my daily stick since, and it’s the first one in years I haven’t quietly replaced after two weeks.

Quick Verdict

Two showers a day, heavy workout sweat, and this magnesium-and-zinc free deodorant still held up for me. It goes on dry, no baking soda, and my whole family uses it. It’s the aluminum free stick I stopped second-guessing.

The Free Deodorant I Stopped Second-Guessing

Macro close-up of aluminum-free deodorant stick showing creamy natural texture and twisted application tip

This is a free deodorant in the way that matters to me: free of aluminum, free of baking soda, free of synthetic fragrance. That combination is harder to find than you’d think, and it’s the reason I kept using it instead of testing something else.

Magnesium And Zinc, No Baking Soda

Twist-up stick with zero wet first swipe, magnesium and zinc do the odor work without baking soda’s underarm burn. No wet, sticky first swipe. The active side of it is magnesium and zinc doing the odor work, which is what pulled me in, because most natural sticks lean on baking soda and that’s the part that burns some people’s underarms.

There’s no baking soda in this one, and that’s a big deal for me. The scent is a light orange, present enough to notice, gone within a minute of application. It comes in a small form factor, but the lineup has enough scent options that each person in the house could pick something different, which is exactly how we ended up buying multiples of the same brand.

How It Held Up On Heavy Sweat Days

Through two showers and a heavy workout, it held odor control all day without reapplication. That’s the real test for me. I put it on in the morning after I work out, and I normally take about two showers a day, so it gets a full day of demand.

I can attest that this really works all day. It held up when a lot of natural sticks would have quit by early afternoon. That’s the thing a free deodorant usually gets wrong, and this one didn’t. It goes on dry, stays put, and I never found myself reaching to reapply after a workout.

It’s Deodorant, Not Antiperspirant

Deodorant only, not antiperspirant, fights odor but not wetness, which is the tradeoff for staying aluminum free. Aluminum free means no antiperspirant, so on my heaviest workout days I still felt wet, the difference is I didn’t smell. If you’re expecting bone-dry pits, that’s not what any aluminum free stick does, this one included. I was fine with that trade because avoiding the aluminum was the whole reason I switched.

The scent is also on the lighter side. Good, clean, but if you like a strong locker-room punch of fragrance, the light orange won’t scratch that itch.

One Stick For The Whole Family

All five of us, men, women, and teens, use the same brand, and nobody has complained once. That’s the actual test. With baking soda sticks, at least one person in the house would tap out within a week from irritation. Here we keep two or three going at once across different scents, and buying one brand for everyone has quietly simplified the bathroom cabinet more than I expected.

Whole Body Deodorant Versus A Baking Soda Stick

Magnesium and zinc beat baking soda on comfort; no burn, no sting, same odor control for sensitive skin. Baking soda is what causes that stinging, itchy underarm reaction for a lot of people, and there’s none of it here. The magnesium and zinc do the odor work instead. The trade is that a baking soda stick sometimes hits harder on odor out of the gate, but it also comes with the burn. For sensitive skin, I’d take this one every time.

What I’d Tell A First-Time Buyer

Go in knowing it’s odor protection, not sweat protection. Apply it in the morning on clean, dry skin after your shower, and give your body a week or so to adjust off an antiperspirant if that’s what you’re coming from. The small form factor means it travels well but you’ll go through it, so a two or three pack is smart if the whole family’s using it. If you’re looking for something with less chemicals and fewer ingredients, this has worked well for me.

Pros

  • Held up all day, even on heavy workout and sweat days
  • Aluminum free and no baking soda, gentle on skin
  • Magnesium and zinc do the odor work, few ingredients
  • Goes on dry, no sticky first swipe
  • Works for men and women, whole family can share one brand

Cons

  • It’s a deodorant, not an antiperspirant, so it won’t stop wetness
  • The orange scent is light if you like a bold fragrance
  • Small form factor means you go through it faster with a family

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this free deodorant stop sweat or just odor?

Just odor. Because it’s aluminum free, it’s a deodorant and not an antiperspirant, so you’ll still sweat but you won’t smell. On my heavy days I stayed fresh even though I was damp.

Will it stain my shirts?

It’s marketed as stain-free and goes on dry, so I didn’t get the white marks a wet stick leaves. As with any deodorant, let it dry a few seconds before pulling your shirt on.

Is there a break-in period switching from antiperspirant?

Usually a week or so. When your body’s been on aluminum-based antiperspirant, it can take a few days to adjust to a natural stick. Give it time before you judge how it’s working.

Can kids or teens use it?

My whole family uses it, boys and girls. With no baking soda and no synthetic fragrance, it’s gentle enough that I trust it across the household, but check with your own judgment on younger kids.

How do I get the most out of one stick?

Apply to clean, dry underarms in the morning after showering. A couple of swipes is plenty since it goes on dry, and over-applying just burns through the small stick faster.

Can I really use it whole body?

Yes, it’s made as a whole body deodorant, not just for underarms. That was a big reason I picked it up, since one stick covers more than just the pits.

Is it good for sensitive skin?

That’s its strongest angle. No baking soda and no synthetic fragrance means no burn for the people who react to those, which is exactly why I moved to it.

How long does a stick last before you replace it?

It comes in a small form factor, so with a full family using it we keep two or three on hand. A single daily user will get through it slower, but if several people share it, buy the multi-pack.

Loses a little because it’s deodorant only, not antiperspirant, so wetness stays. If you need bone-dry pits this isn’t it. But for aluminum free, no baking soda, and all-day odor control that survived my workout sweat, it’s the stick my whole family kept using.
