Doctor’s Recipes Vitamin D3 K2 Review: Two Months In, One Softgel a Day
Two months on Doctor's Recipes Vitamin D3 K2. What the 10,000 IU plus 200 mcg MK-7 combo does, and who should check with a doctor first.
Doctor’s Recipes Vitamin D3 K2 is worth buying if you’re over 60, indoors most of the day, and already building a supplement routine. One softgel pairs 10,000 IU of D3 with 200 mcg of MK-7 K2, and the 120-count bottle runs about four months. That potency is high, so clear it with your doctor first.

It Seems Like Nowadays All the Rage Is D3 and K2
I’m over 60, I work indoors, and my last bloodwork flagged low D. So when I picked up Doctor’s Recipes Vitamin D3 K2 I wasn’t reaching for something exotic, I was reaching for a specific pairing at a specific dose, from a brand with a label that didn’t bury the numbers.
One thing I like about it: no soy, no dairy, no sugar. That’s important to me, important to my diet and kinda how I live. If you’ve read anything else on this blog you know I’m low sugar, minimally processed, gluten free where I can be. A supplement that sneaks soy oil or sugar into the carrier defeats the point.
Why the Two Are Packaged Together
D3 opens the door for calcium, K2 tells it where to go. That’s the short version. The D3 is aimed toward helping the body absorb calcium and bone mineralization, and it also plays into muscle function and immune health. The K2, the MK-7 form here at 200 mcg, directs that calcium toward bones and teeth instead of letting it sit in soft tissue or vessels where it doesn’t belong.
That’s the whole argument for buying them in one softgel rather than two bottles. Taking D3 alone leaves calcium distribution to chance; this formula pairs them to direct it where it belongs. Whether you feel the difference is another matter, and I’ll get to that.
10,000 IU Is the High End of the Shelf
This is a high-potency bottle, not a maintenance dose. Plenty of D3 products sit at 1,000 or 2,000 IU. This one is 10,000 IU in a single softgel, which the brand frames as roughly what your skin produces in full direct sunlight. The pitch is for people who work long hours indoors, night owls, homebodies, and people advancing in age. That last group is me.
Amazon has it ranked around #24,842 in Health & Household with more than 1,000 bought in the last month, so it isn’t obscure, but it also isn’t one of the mega-sellers that dominate the D3 category. And the price has been sitting right about where it’s been for the last three months, so there’s no obvious reason to sit and wait on it. Check the current price at the link.
Getting Started: One Softgel, Four Months
One softgel daily; 120-count bottle covers roughly four months. At the price it was listed when I bought it, that works out to well under a dollar a day, cheaper per dose than most two-bottle D3-plus-K2 setups I priced out.
There’s nothing to figure out here. No powder, no scoop, no mixing. I take it with a multivitamin as part of my morning routine, and since D3 and K2 are both fat soluble I take it with food. A softgel that size goes down easy, which matters if you’re already swallowing two or three other things.
Who This Dose Isn’t Built For
Anyone on a blood thinner should not grab this without talking to a doctor. Vitamin K interacts with warfarin, and there’s 200 mcg of it per softgel here. Same goes if you already have a D3 level in a good range, because 10,000 IU daily on top of what you’re getting from food and sun isn’t a casual addition.
And if you’ve never had your vitamin D tested, this isn’t the bottle to guess with. A lower-potency D3 is the safer starting point. This one is for people who know their numbers or who’ve been told to bring them up.
The Part I Can’t Measure
After two months I’m satisfied with it, but I can’t isolate its effect because I changed diet and activity simultaneously. That’s the catch with this whole category and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. My biggest reason for taking it is that I’m getting older and I’m trying to maintain bone and muscle. The science says you lose a fair amount of muscle and bone each year after you turn 60, and I read a lot of stuff on bone and muscle health, so I know that’s where I am.
I added it alongside a multivitamin, cleaned up my eating, and started moving more, all at once. If something is improving, I can’t hand this softgel the credit. That’s the problem with the whole supplement category: the inputs are too tangled to isolate. What I can say is that nothing got worse, the routine stuck, and I’m not stopping.
That’s an uncomfortable thing to write in a product review, because the clean story would be “I took it and here’s what changed.” Two months isn’t long enough for bone density to tell you anything either. If you want a supplement that gives you a same-week signal, this isn’t it. D3 and K2 are a play on the long term, and you have to be okay with not getting feedback.
Before You Order: Check the Count and the Dose
Verify you’re buying the 120-softgel, 10,000 IU version, brands run multiple potencies under nearly identical labels. Brands in this category run several potencies and bottle sizes under near-identical labels, and the 120-count is what gets you the four months. If you’re new to D3, buy the smaller dose and work up rather than starting here.

Also check your multivitamin before you add this. Mine doesn’t carry much D3, so stacking wasn’t an issue, but a lot of them do and you don’t want to double up blind.
Pros
- No soy, no dairy, no sugar, which fits how I eat
- 200 mcg of MK-7 K2 paired with the D3 in one softgel, so you’re not buying two bottles
- 120 softgels at one a day gives about a four month supply
- One small softgel, easy to add to an existing morning routine
- Price point was part of why I picked it over other D3 and K2 options
Cons
- Two months in, I can’t isolate what this did, because I changed my diet and activity at the same time
- 10,000 IU is high potency and needs a doctor’s sign-off if you’re on blood thinners or haven’t been tested
- No feedback loop, bone and muscle benefits don’t show up on any scale you own
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need to be taken with food?
Yes, take it with a meal. D3 and K2 are both fat soluble, so they absorb better alongside food that contains some fat. I take mine in the morning with breakfast and my multivitamin.
How should I store the softgels?
Cool, dry, out of direct light. Softgels soften and can stick together if a bottle sits in a hot car or a steamy bathroom cabinet. A kitchen cupboard away from the stove is fine.
Can I take it every other day instead of daily?
That’s a question for your doctor, not me. Some people on high-potency D3 do space it out, and the 120-count bottle obviously stretches a lot further that way. The label directs one softgel per day.
Is the softgel shell vegetarian?
The listing confirms no soy, gluten or dairy and non-GMO, but it doesn’t call the product vegetarian or vegan. Softgel shells are commonly gelatin based, so check the supplement facts panel on the current bottle if that’s a requirement for you.
I enjoy taking this product and I think it works for me, as one piece of a routine that also includes eating better and moving more. If you’re in that same spot, older, indoors a lot, already building the rest of the habits and looking for the D3 and K2 pairing without soy or sugar in it, this is an easy one to add. The price has been steady, so there’s no reason to wait on it. You can check the current price on Amazon and see the full supplement facts there.
